One of my Iranian friends went to her asylum hearing, here in the UK. They assigned her a Parsi translator. She struggled to understand the dialect of the translator as her first language is actually an Azeri variant of the Turkic family of languages, as is universal in her native north-western Iran. This turned into an almighty shenanigan about her questionable authenticity if she could not understand "Iranian". It's enough to make you weep...
